Rent Reporters – Get rental history from resident portal

Over 60% of U.S. renters already live in properties with resident portals. TenantBio lets rent-reporting companies instantly verify rental history directly from those portals — no landlord outreach, no document fraud, and no manual review.

Get more customers

Offer rent reporting to more customers who can’t use bank linking to verify their rent payments

Faster reporting

Rent payments that are coming from resident portals do not need to be verified, as they are coming directly from source of truth

Reduce cost

Reduce the cost associated bank linking fees (Plaid), and user uploaded document processing by offering the resident portal linking before offering other methods

The Problem TenantBio Solves

Most rent reporting solutions depend on:

  • Bank transaction linking (Plaid)
  • Bank statements
  • Renter-uploaded receipts or leases

These approaches break down when:

  • Rent is paid by check, money order, cashier’s check, or cash
  • Payments are logged only inside a resident portal
  • Transaction descriptions don’t clearly indicate rent
  • Landlord identity cannot be verified
  • Manual review becomes expensive and slow

The result:

  • Eligible renters are blocked
  • Support and compliance costs increase
  • Fraud risk rises
  • Rent reporting coverage stalls

What Is TenantBio?

TenantBio is a consumer-permissioned resident portal linking tool that allows renters to share verified rental history with third parties.

TenantBio verifies:

  • ✅ Landlord identity
  • ✅ Property address
  • ✅ Renter–property relationship
  • ✅ Rent ledger history (amounts, dates, balances)

TenantBio does not:

  • ❌ Require landlord involvement
  • ❌ Allow renters to modify data
  • ❌ Rely on bank transactions
  • ❌ Require document uploads
  • ❌ Require renters to share usernames or passwords

Why TenantBio Was Built

Renter, Inc. has performed landlord reference verification nationwide since 2015.

To reduce fraud and improve accuracy, we built TenantBio to:

  • Detect fake landlords
  • Validate rental history at the system of record
  • Eliminate renter-submitted document fraud
  • Improve response rates and turnaround time

During this work, we identified a broader opportunity:

The same verified rental data used for tenant screening can unlock rent reporting for renters that bank data can’t reach.

TenantBio is the product that we now offer to rent reporting companies and FinTech. We offer the Resident Portal Linking as part of our Rental History Verification (RHV) solution. But it’s also available as standalone product.

Why Rent Reporting Companies Should Use TenantBio

1. Enable More Renters to Report Rent

TenantBio unlocks renters who:

  • Use portals that never touch ACH
  • Pay rent by check or money order
  • Pay cash that is logged in the portal
  • Fail or abandon bank linking

More verified renters = higher activation and retention.

2. Reduce Manual Verification

TenantBio automatically verifies:

  • The landlord
  • The property
  • The rent ledger

This reduces:

  • Manual document review
  • Support tickets
  • Risky renter-submitted evidence

3. Improve Fraud Resistance

Bank data can show a payment — but not necessarily rent.

TenantBio confirms:

  • Who the landlord is
  • Where the property is
  • That the ledger reflects rent

This dramatically reduces:

  • Fake landlords
  • Non-rent transactions
  • Circular or manipulated payments

4. Stay Aligned With Bureau & FCRA Expectations

Credit bureaus do not require rent payments to appear in bank transactions

They require:

  • Reasonable procedures to ensure accuracy
  • Verified source data
  • Ability to investigate disputes

Resident portals already meet these expectations.
TenantBio provides the verification layer and audit trail.

How TenantBio Works

  1. Renter selects “Share rental history”

    • Property
    • Ledger history
